Why I’m using public financing…

Montgomery County's public financing program was established in an effort to prevent the influence of money in politics, and to ensure that our county elections are determined by the quality of candidates, not by their ability to pull in large campaign contributions. Contributions are limited to $250 per four-year cycle for public financing and will be matched on a sliding scale. Contributions from any group or organization, including PAC’s, corporations, LLCs, LLPs, sole proprietors, political parties or unions, are prohibited.

Get to know Kate

Kate was elected as the Mayor of Takoma Park in 2015 and has proven her ability to lead— and address the challenges that so many communities like ours face— ranging from the COVID-19 crisis, housing affordability, underlying economic inequalities, racial injustice, and climate change.

While Takoma Park is known for its activism around progressive issues, some members of the community- such as immigrants, Black and Brown residents, and young people- may face barriers to being heard. Kate has worked to include and amplify those voices and form policies based on input from across all communities.

Her record shows that effective government is the product of effective leadership and she wants to see her larger community served by leaders who roll up their sleeves in the face of steep challenges.
